Predicting the recurrence of tumors in nodal-negative mammary carcinoma patients comprises: (a) measuring the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) in mammary carcinoma tissue; and (b) comparing the measured levels with threshold values. An Independent claim is also included for a kit for carrying out the method, comprising means for measuring VEGF and uPA levels in extracts of mammary carcinoma tissue.
