Voltage divider for measuring high direct current voltages in areas subject to high frequency interference; has tuning capacitor to balance capacitive divider voltages with those of resistive divider
The voltage divider has a tap (5) that divides the total resistance of a rod-shaped high voltage measuring resistor into two partial resistances (R1,R2). The measuring resistor is held in two concentric metal cylinders (6,7) by insulating spacers (9,10). The inner cylinder (6) is connected by an electric connection line (11) to the measuring tap. The outer cylinder (7) is connected to earth. The diameter of the inner cylinder is large enough to give the required insulation between the measuring resistor and the inner cylinder, which have a capacitance, C1. The diameter of the outer cylinder is selected such that the capacitance (C2) between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder allows tuning of the voltages of a capacitive voltage divider (C1,C2+Cx) to the voltages of the resistive voltage divider (R1,R2), where Cx is a tuning capacitance.
