The monitoring system includes a main module (1) with plug in or connectable sub-modules respectively according to the food product, freshness requirements and transportation conditions. In the module are provided adaptable and controllable multi-sensors, suitable for inside or outside, for solid, liquid or gas phases for freshness monitoring. The module also includes a microelectronic data processor and/or organizer and/or memory as well as, optionally, a bidirectional and/or location dependent radio connection (3). The module is controlled from a center (4). The module is provided to food products and monitors the food for freshness during worldwide transportation and conveys information on changes to a central station.
