The maximum regulator has a demand value generator (13) that generates a demand value (1) that is fed to a conventional regulator (2), which produces a control value (3) that acts on the controlled process (4). An actual value (5) from the controlled process is fed to the conventional regulator as an input parameter. The control value produced by the conventional regulator or another value derived from it is used to influence the demand value generation in the demand value generator. Independent claims are also included for the use of a maximum regulator to regulate electrical power of electrical supplies and for regulating the efficiency of a microwave generator.
