With a slow advance speed, the equipment with the aid of one or more microwave transmitters (1) the road surface layers (5-7) are heated. The emitted microwaves are pulsated at short time intervals. In this way, the cover layer (5) is brought to a highly plastic state, which decreases to the binder layer (6) and the support layer (7) beneath it. The heating of the cover layer is stopped when the support layer has a suitable binding ability and processing condition. The temperature parameters are determined by infra-red sensors (8), allowing the binding ability to be assessed.
