The invention relates to an automation system with at least one automation component (1) that is provided with at least one automation object (A1..An). Said system also comprises function blocks (F1..F6) which contain means for central management and maintenance of the automation objects (A1..An). A definition of novel automation objects, optionally by using already existing automation objects, is thus possible, whereby the definition is independent from the manufacturer. Separate and costly programming of novel automation solutions has been dropped completely or is at least essentially simplified.
