The brake unit has a pump (5) to supply hydraulic fluid through a brake line (24) to at least one wheel brake (11), at least one pressure-modulating valve to alter the brake pressure and a low pressure reservoir (10) upstream of the brakes. The brake force is amplified at the beginning of a skid-free normal braking action by activating the pump, which is integrated in the brake line directly upstream of the brakes.
