Antitumor activity strengthening method (I) applied to a crude drug containing polysaccharides with antitumor activity comprises roasting the crude drug by far infrared rays and fermentation by adding microorganisms. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an antitumor activity strengthened crude drug containing composition which comprises a crude drug treated with the method of (I); and (2) a method of evaluating the effectiveness of the antitumor activity strengthening method comprising adding the activity strengthened drug of (1) to a system which forms lipid peroxide by irradiating ultraviolet rays to an unsaturated fatty acid e.g. docosahexaenoic acid and evaluating the effect of the treatment as an increased ratio of the amount of the lipid peroxide formed.
