The system has a light switch with day signaling light and night light positions, a head lamp with a discharge lamp (10) that works with a reflector (20) to generate a beam at night with essentially no light-dark boundary. By setting the light switch to day signaling light, part of the beam can be deflected (50) so that the same lamp can be used to produce a light beam of reduced intensity using the same supply conditions.
