The procedures speed up the establishment of contact between remote stations. The procedure established connection between a calling station (MOc) and a called station (MOa) through a network (RTC). After dialling the number of a called station, there is a period of stabilisation (PS) for the transmission channel. The procedure then includes transmitting a sequence containing the capacity and configuration of the equipment (INF00c), followed by a phase of probing and marking during a period (PI) following the stabilisation period. This is following by a phase of interaction with the network when the capacity and configuration signal (INF00c) is not received by the called station within a given time. The procedure includes storing in memory channel modulation information about at least one item of equipment.
