To correct morbid obesity, a patient's stomach (6) may be constricted by a ring (2) which is tightened or loosened by a motor (3). The ring is in one piece with the motor housing and comprises a grooved band within a flexible biologically compatible sheath. The grooved band engages transversely with the motor driving wheel and the sheath deforms as required. Control is exercised through an external transmitter (10) and internal receiver (11).
