An intense radiation protection device comprises a nonlinear material layer between the first matrix of a micro-lens matrix pair and a common focal plane. A device for protecting a sensitive object against intense radiation comprises one or more image transport optics having one or more pairs of identical focal length micro-lens matrices with coincident focal planes and one or more nonlinear material layers positioned between the first matrix and the focal plane.
