Decoding process for digital signal in symbols includes compensation by hard decisions for latency introduced by soft decoding decisions

The system uses a reduced pilot signal enabling an increase in overall data flow rate. The procedure provides reception of a signal which is formed of successive symbols, and decoding (94) of the signal operating in blocks. The process operates with soft decisions and offers a given latency. The procedure includes a stage (29) of estimation of the response of the transmission channel for a currently received symbol. This estimation is obtained by a closed loop, using a reconstruction (27) of the transmitted symbol which was previously received, this reconstruction taking account of the soft decisions delivered by the soft decision decoding, w.r.t. data delivered by an inverse signal binary coding stage (24) and corresponding to the previously received symbol. The reconstruction also takes account of the hard decisions obtained by thresholding (95) on the data delivered by the inverse signal binary coding stage, for the soft decisions which are not available as a result of the latency of the soft decision decoding (94).
