Ferroelectric ceramics; pyroelectric infra red detectors

A ferroelectric ceramic for use as a pyroelectric, said ceramic having the composition:BR ```PbSB1/SB+SB w /SB [(MgSB1/3/SBNbSB2/3/SB)SBy/SB (ZrSB1-x/SBTiSBx/SB)SB1-y/SB]SB1-z/SBASBz/SB OSB3/SBBR ```where: 0.05 /w / 0BR ```0.4 / x0BR ```0.4 / y 0BR ```0.05 / z 0BR ```and wherein A is a cationic multivalent octahedral site substituent, preferably manganese or uranium. Pyroelectric infra red detectors incorporating the ferroelectric ceramic are described.
