PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording medium identification system for identifying that a video recording medium set by a user is different from the scheduled one. ;SOLUTION: Video signals and additional information are read from a video tape (S12) and whether or not it is an image with a feature is judged (S13). In the case of being entirely the same color, it is judged that the feature is not present, a tape position is changed (S17) and then a processing is performed again from S13. In the case of not being entirely the same color, it is judged that the feature is present, a feature amount is prepared (S14) and identification information is generated (S15). When the identification information generated in such a manner is preserved as information for indicating the video tape to be set, when the user sets the video tape, the identification information directly generated from the video tape and the preserved identification information are compared and whether or not it is the video tape to be set is identified.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
