PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recover phosphorus from sewage sludge or sewage sludge incineration ash, to effectively utilize the sewage sludge or sewage sludge incineration ash and thereby to enable sufficient and effective utilization of resources. SOLUTION: This recovery process comprises melting sewage sludge or sewage sludge incineration ash 2 each containing phosphorus in an electric, melting furnace 15, adding iron or an iron compound to the formed molten material, and then, separating the resulting molten mixture by using the difference in specific gravity to form iron molten metal 20 containing phosphorus.
