PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the detection sensitivity at the time of evaluating the toxicity of an environmental pollutant to the ecology by the comet assay method and, at the same time, to accurately evaluate the ecotoxicology of the environmental pollutant in a water environment. ;SOLUTION: In a method for evaluating ecotoxicology, the toxicity of an environmental pollutant to the ecology is evaluated in such a way that, after the cell of a microorganism living in a water environment is dissolved, the degree of lesion of the DNA of the cell is determined by performing DNA unwinding and electrophoresis under an alkali condition and measuring the moving distance and/or moment of the DNA and the toxicity is evaluated based on the determined results.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
