This invention provides compositions, useful for producing liocel fibres, having a high hemicellulose content, a low lignin content and including cellulose that has a low average degree of polymerisation (D.P.). In addition, this invention provides procedures for producing compositions, which are useful for producing liocel fibres, with a high hemicellulose content,a low lignin content and including cellulose that has a low average degree of polymerisation. This invention also provides liocel fibers containing a high proportion of hemicellulose. In addition, liocel fibres of the present invention have increased dye binding properties and reduced tendency to fibrillation.
