Safety device for passenger conveying equipment

The invented safety device for passenger conveying equipment such as escalators and moving walkways and having at least one comb plate, responds to movement of the comb plate due to an applied force to actuate a safety switch. The safety device exerts a static trigger force on the comb plate which trigger force has horizontal and vertical components. The comb plate (1) is movable horizontally and vertically against a static trigger force F, respectively against horizontal component Fh and vertical component Fv thereof when the applied force exceeds one or both of the horizontal and vertical components. The trigger force F is set through the mediation of a biased trigger spring (5) and resolves according to the adjustable angular position of the spring (5) axis to Fh and Fv components of the static trigger force F. The ratio of the horizontal component to the vertical component can be adjusted and secured by a simple manual reset within a certain angular range through engagement of detent notches (12) on an abutment attached to the comb plate and detent pins (13) connected to the trigger spring, without intervening in the safety device structure.
