In the present invention there is described the use of a benzothiophene compounds of the general formula I, in which Re1 and Re3 represent independently on each other a hydrogen atom, methyl or the group of the formula (a) or (b), wherein Ar represents a phenyl group being substituted one or twice with an alkyl group containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a hydroxy group, a nitro group, a chlorine atom, a fluorine atom or a tri(chloro or fluoro)methyl group, Re2 is selected from a group comprising a pyrrolidino group and a piperidino group for preparing a pharmaceutical preparation intended for inhibition of Alzheimer's disease, for increase of TGF- {beta} expression in the brain, for inhibition of inflammatory response associated with the Alzheimer's disease and for inhibiting {beta}-amyloid peptide mediated neurotoxicity.
