This invention relates to the gene cluster for aclacinomycin biosynthesis being included in a 7kb iXho/iI-iNot/iI fragment and a flanked 8.5kb iBgl/iII fragment derived from iStreptomyces galilaeus/i, and the use of the genes included therein to obtain hybrid antibiotics, or to increase yields of aclacinomycins or related antibiotics.
