The method involves forming a generator polynomial, and expanding the input data block to free space for parity words. An intermediate result is determined by dividing the shifted data block polynomial by the generator polynomial, and multiplying the result by the generator polynomial. A further intermediate result is determined by dividing the result by the generator polynomial, and taking the integer part. The further result is multiplied by the generator polynomial, and this is added to the further result.. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method.
