PURPOSE: A top-down auction system using the internet is provided to start the auction with the highest price and adjust the price to down automatically after a predetermined time and to enable the consumers to participate in the auction according to the automatically downed price without consumer's active participation. CONSTITUTION: A top-down auction system that uses the internet is composed of identification, participation, and conclusion. A user connects to the web server's web site(S110), the web server requests the user to input his/her ID and password(S120), the user connects to the web server(S140), and receives auction information form the web server(S150). If not a registered user(S122), the web server transmits the membership application to the user and the user inputs the requested information(S170). The member who wishes to auction a product provides the requested auction information which will be stored in the auction information DB(S210). The auction is initiated at a predetermined time(S220), the periodic declining bid amount is applied when the participants fail to make the bids(S230), and the winning bid information is stored in the auction information DB upon conclusion(S250). If the bidding amount is lower than the optimum bid amount(S251), the auction conclusion module automatically concludes the auction(S260) and saves the winning bid information as 'null'(S270). An automatic auction of the previously nullified auction is conducted(S280). If a winning bidder is present(S290), the auction is concluded, and the auction information is stored in the DB(S300).
