The chisel for an impact tool, eg. jack hammer, has a similar mass as that of the impact driver of the tool. This provides a maximum efficiency in the energy transfer between the driver and the chisel. The mass ratio of the chisel and driver is selected to be as near to 1 as possible. For a quieter operation the chisel shaft has a round cross section.
