The device for emptying a container hanging from chains (11) on a crane by tipping it forward comprises a bar (1) mounted on the top rear edge of the container. This has toothed strips (7) at each end over which the chains are fed after passing them through fastening eyes (10) on the container. They are then passed under a downwardly-sloping bar (2) mounted at the bottom rear edge of the container and which can slide along an upwardly-sloping guide (3), so that when the chains are pulled upwards the container is tipped forwards.
