Process for treating domestic waste comprises partially biologically degrading the waste in a rotting stage, regeneratively purifying a part of the waste air (21) produced during rotting and recycling the other part of the waste air as circulating air (22) into a feed region (18) of the rotting stage. An Independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the treatment process comprising a unit for the biological degradation of waste consisting of a container (11) for the waste and lines (12, 13) and container connections for introducing air and removing waste air. The unit has an apparatus (15) for purifying the waste air and devices for recycling the waste air.
