The internally ventilated brake disk, especially for use in high speed trains has two friction rings (1a, 1b) which have mirror symmetry and which are connected by cross-bars (3) which act as ventilator blades. Air inlets and outlets (4) are arranged around the inner and outer periphery of the disk. These have a seating (5) with a cooperating seal (6). When the temperature of the disk rises the seal is raised above the seating, either by thermal expansion or an activating system, allowing ventilation, sealing it again when the disk cools.
