The plug for mounting articles on soft materials, e.g. wood, rubber and plastics, consists of a tube (12) made up of wire segments (14), like a row of staples. It has an open slit (16) along one edge which is forced against the material when a screw is inserted into the center of the tube so that it is held firmly in place. An independent claim is included for a packet of staples from which the plug can be produced.
