Production of polyamic acids (I) or polyimides (II) comprises: (a) reacting a tetracarboxylic dianhydride with an aromatic diamine, a siloxane diamine and an aromatic polyamine; and (b) optionally converting the resulting polyamic acid to a polyimide by thermal or chemical means. Production of polyamic acids (I) or polyimides (II) comprises: (a) reacting a tetracarboxylic dianhydride with an aromatic diamine, a diamine having a siloxane structure of formula (III) and an aromatic polyamine of formula (IV) or (V); and (b) optionally converting the resulting polyamic acid to a polyimide by thermal or chemical means: R4 = 1-20C alkylene; n' = 1-20; A1 = a group of formula (i)-(iii); A2 = a group of formula (iv) or (v); R = O, CH2, CO or SO2; n1 = 0-4; n2 = 0-3; X = an acid; q = the basicity of X.
