The method involves observing a focus test card projected onto the eye's background or retina during surgery using a binocular observation instrument in which one optical system (2,3,6) represents the elements of a microscope of a binocular telescope type for observing the surface of the eye and the other optical system (4,5) represents the elements of a telescope for observing the test card (15) projected onto the retina through the eye lens.
