The echo-sounding sonar device operates at a high ultrasonic frequency in the 100-250 kHz range with or without a lower ultrasonic frequency range of 3.5-40 kHz. A desired echo-sounding sonar system (A) is provided with special echo-sounding sonar electronics (B) with a very high ultrasonic frequency - e.g., 700 kHz, and sound transducer acoustic cone angles of less than 3 degrees, with the acoustic cones of the echo-sounding sonar system and the special echo-sounding sonar electronics are arranged so closely so that their acoustic cones intersect and inter-penetrate each other. The digital electronics operate so that the last arriving echo signal is determined as an echo delay, and emits an inhibiting signal beginning with the transmitter trigger and ending slightly before the echo delay, the inhibiting signal being lead into echo-sounding sonar system such that during the inhibiting signal, the echo reception of the echo-sounding sonar system is blocked.
