The method involves projecting a target movable in all directions onto a target wall (1) and using an infrared camera (7) to acquire the image of a shot on the wall. The target co-ordinates are determined simultaneously with outputting the target and are compared with the detected hit co-ordinates. If the difference is less than a defined value a hit is signaled. An Independent claim is also included for a firing system.
