Medicament comprising a nettle (Urtica) extract prepared using an extractant other than water, ethanol and their mixtures is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) production of a nettle extract by extracting fresh or dried nettle plants or leaves with an extractant other than water, ethanol and their mixtures, adding water to the extract, extracting the mixture with a nonpolar solvent, separating the aqueous phase, acidifying the aqueous phase, and extracting the aqueous phase with an organic solvent; (2) use of hydroxyoctadecatrienoic acid (I) for treating immunological disorders; (3) use of (I) for treating Alzheimer's disease, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or obesity.
