The system (1) has an ignition switch (2) that can be moved from a locked position (6) to a start position (7) to start a vehicle. A detection system with a switch-position detector detects a given state, which indicates that the driver has left the vehicle. A device resets the ignition switch to the locked position, when the detection system determines that the driver has left the vehicle. An Independent claim is included for a method for resetting an ignition switch.
