A drive shaft (8) is rotatably supported by an arm (101c) of sewing machine. A link mechanism is arranged to rotate the drive shaft, and to convert the gyration of the drive shaft into rectilinear motion. A gear wheel is provided to move either the scalpel (12) or the scalpel receptacle to another side. The link mechanism is provided in offset position from the axle line which passes along the scalpel and the needle.
