The method involves receiving instructions from an auctioneer to enable an auction specification that provides rules for the auction. An auction identifier is produced that is connected to the auction specification. A number of bids or bid strategies are received that are connected to the auction identifier. The received bids or bid strategies are evaluated in an environment that is not accessible by the auctioneer. An auction result is provided to the bidders based on the evaluation.
