The lift stop for maintenance in a lift shaft (1) containing a cabin (2) has a stop (9) placed between the cabin roof and the top of the lift shaft. The stop is retractable and defines a gap of approximately one point five meters between the cabin and shaft top when deployed, to prevent accidental crushing of a lift maintenance worker.
