The mattress comprises a base (2) with raised spaced peaks (3) and troughs (5). At least one peak comprises two superposed layers with one compressible elastic layer adjoining the base of the mattress and the other adjoining the peaks. The layer adjoining the base has a property differing from that of the layer adjoining the peaks. A third compressible elastic layer can be included between the other two and has a completely different property.
