Each pet (4), and its medical file (5b), is allocated a unique identifying code (5a). Every time a vet (2) is consulted he creates a record of the visit, which is transmitted and recorded (6b) in a database (1) so that a file can either be created or updated. Subsequently when another vet wishes to consult the medical file it can be accessed via a network, such as the Internet (8), the identification code is used to obtain authorized access. An Independent claim is made for a system for creating or updating pet medical records.
