Preparation of composition based on collagen obtained from fish skin, for use as bio-material, comprises stage of washing fish skins followed by extraction with acid solution, and filtration. The process comprises at least one stage of washing of fish skins, preferably minced, and at least one extraction stage, comprising extraction of acid-soluble collagen using acid solution. Washing is preferably repeated number of times (preferably over total time of 24 hours), and is conducted in bath of saline acid solution, such as sodium acetate solution, which is changed to fresh solution after each washing stage. Extraction is conducted for 24-72 (preferably 36-54) hours and followed by filtration of fish skin/acid solution mixture under pressure. The mixture can be additionally diluted with acid solution before filtration, to facilitate the latter. The composition obtained after filtration is preferably subjected to precipitation and/or freezing and/or washing(s) and/or lyophilizing and/or dialysis. The process preferably uses starting material in form of catfish skins, frozen immediately after skin-removing operation, and minced before washing stage.
