KAINIC ACID TYPE GLUTAMATE RECEPTOR-SHIELDING AGENT, AMPA TYPE GLUTAMATE RECEPTOR SHIELDING AGENT, BRAIN- PROTECTING AGENT AND FOOD OR DRINK HAVING BRAIN- PROTECTING FUNCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To advance researches related to the ingredients of green tea to provide medicines, quasi medicines, foods and drinks which are useful for preventing and treating cerebral diseases and cerebral function disorders.;SOLUTION: A kainic acid type glutamate receptor-shielding agent and an AMPA type glutamate receptor shielding agent each containing theanine as an active ingredient are provided. Since the kainic acid type glutamate receptor and the AMPA type glutamate receptor participate in slowly progressing neurocyte apoptosis among neurocyte apoptosis syndromes, the kainic acid type glutamate receptor-shielding agent and the AMPA type glutamate receptor shielding agent exhibit effects especially for preventing and treating neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The brain-protecting agent and the brain-protecting function-having food or drink which each contain a mixture of the theanine with catechin as an active ingredient are also provided. When both the theanine and the catechin are administered, remarkably excellent effects can be enjoyed on the prevention and treatment of diseases and cerebral function disorders accompanied by neurocyte apoptosis in comparison with a case that the theanine and the catechin are singly administered, respectively.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
