PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent instability of a power system by reverse control when a direction of power flow of three phase AC transmission line is inverted by power fluctuation. SOLUTION: A thyristor controlled series capacitor 101 is disposed on a transmission line 100. When a direction of power flow is not inverted, thyristors Thy1, Thy2 are not ignited and a reactance Xtcsc of the capacitor 101 is considered a reactance Xc of a series capacitor Ctcsc. When the direction of power flow is inverted, thyristors Thy1, Thy2 are ignited for conduction to make the reactance Xc inductive and the magnitude of power flow in reverse direction is restricted not to increase.
