A compound of formula (I) or a salt, ester or amide thereof; where X is O, or S, S(O) or S(O)SUB2 /SUBor NRSUP10 /SUPwhere RSUP10 /SUPis hydrogen or CSUB1-6 /SUBalkyl, and RSUP1/SUP, RSUP2/SUP, RSUP3/SUP, RSUP4/SUP, RSUP5/SUP, RSUP6/SUP, RSUP7/SUP, RSUP8 /SUPand RSUP9 /SUPare various specified organic groups. These compounds are inhibitors of aurora 2 kinase, and are useful in the treatment of cancer.
