An evolutionary algorithm used to influence directed testing or a search for related error characteristics of advertisements variants. There is provided the sample advertisements initial population and characteristics of each advertisement are encoded as a set of genes associated with each member of the population. the effectiveness of each Member is interpreted using for example the number of times a user clicks on each ad. Members of this population generates a plurality of descendants of those commercials that inherit characteristics from their parents. The members of the population have better effectiveness than other are selected preferentially to the next generation. Through continuous preferential selection of parents with greater effectiveness than the other, the chance to generate offspring with better effectiveness increases. The spread of special features or combinations of features within this evolutionary process to specify and verify those advertising features that give effective results.
