A semiconductor laser light source and a light source unit each comprise a first platelike metallic member to which a semiconductor laser array is joined along the periphery, a second platelike metallic member having an inlet opening for introducing coolant and a coolant draining groove both formed therein, and a third platelike metallic member having therein at least one cooling groove formed along the area corresponding to the periphery, communicating with a coolant introducing groove and the coolant draining groove, and adapted for allowing the coolant to flow in the longitudinal direction of the semiconductor laser array. As a result, the cross sections of the grooves are larger than those of a conventional structure, the production cost is lower than that of a conventional structure, and problems such as clogging of the passage and high pressure loss are solved.
