A nucleic acid (I) encoding an allergenic polypeptide (II), is new. A nucleic acid (I) encoding an allergenic polypeptide (II) comprises: (a) a sequence (1; 1294 bp), (3; 1092 bp), (5; 2230 bp) or (7; 1076 bp), fully defined in the specification, or their fragments that encode an allergenic determinant; (b) an equivalent of (a) within the degeneracy of the genetic code; (c) a sequence with over 80% identity with (a) or (b) above; or (d) a sequence that hybridizes to (a)-(c) above under stringent conditions. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) nucleic acid (Ia) that encodes a protein (2; 355 amino acids (aa)), (4; 285 aa), (6; 705 aa) or (8; 254 aa), fully defined in the specification; (2) recombinant nucleic acid (Ib) that (i) encodes a polypeptide having the antigenicity of (2), (4), (6) or (8), and derived from arthropods or (ii) hybridizes to (i) under stringent conditions; (3) vector containing (I)-(Ib), linked to expression control elements; (4) cell transformed with (I)-(Ib) or the vector of (c); (5) (II) or polypeptides (IIa) immunologically cross-reactive with them; (6) antibodies (Ab) against (II) or (IIa); (7) pharmaceutical composition containing any of (I)-(Ib), the vector of (c) or cell of (d), (II), (IIa) or Ab; (8) method for diagnosing allergy to arthropods; and (9) an allergen that is an arginine kinase.
