The method and system of the present invention assist the user 16 to accomplish a task in accordance with a series of procedures, such as those used in software development. The process specification of the software being developed is exemplified by the support system, whereby the support system 8 provides the user with a series of choices related to software development. Each of the options provides a number of system tools 22, each of which is used for software development in parallel and simultaneously. The support system automatically manages and inspects the process at every task, suggests a course of work to the user, and provides error analysis. The system provides flexible support without requiring users to follow a difficult development process.
