PURPOSE: An electronic program guide remote control and service system and method using the remote control are provided for a user to selectively watch only broadcast suitable for his preference using information about program in a multi-channel environment. CONSTITUTION: An electronic program guide remote control includes a memory(440), a signal transmitter, a program receiver(410), a signal processor(420), and an input/output unit(450-456). The memory stores information for selecting a broadcasting channel. The signal transmitter outputs a signal for changing the broadcasting channel according to the operation of a user. The program receiver accepts broadcasting program information received in radio or wired and extracts the received broadcasting program information. The signal processor controls the operation of the program receiver and controls decoding of the received broadcasting program information and storing the decoded information into a memory. The input/output unit outputs a control signal for inputting/outputting a broadcasting program signal and selecting the broadcasting channel to the signal processor according to the operation of the user. The remote control downloads and stores broadcasting program information including at least one of at least one sky wave broadcasting channel, at least one phase broadcasting channel and at least one cable TV broadcasting channel and selects a broadcasting channel based on the stored information.
