PURPOSE: Provided are a 1,3,5-tris(substituted catecholyl methyl)-2,4,6-trialkyl benzene compound with a cage structure, which can sense ammonium ions with excellent sensitivity and selectivity, and an ion sensor using the compound. CONSTITUTION: The 1,3,5-tris(substituted catecholyl methyl)-2,4,6-trialkyl benzene compound with the cage structure is represented by the formula 1, wherein R1, R2, and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen or C1-C10 alkyl, C1-C10 alkylthio, C1-C10 alkyloxy, C1-C10 alkylamine, C1-C10 alkylester, halogen, nitro, and amine. And the ion sensor is an ion selective electrode containing 0.5-5wt% of the 1,3,5-tris(substituted catecholyl methyl)-2,4,6-trialkyl benzene compound, 10-70wt% of a polymer support, and 10-70wt% of a plasticizer.
