PURPOSE: Carbon dioxide is recovered in high yield by a pressure swing adsorption(PSA) apparatus, which is adsorbed from combustion gas of a thermal power generating plant by an activated carbon. CONSTITUTION: The PSA apparatus comprises adsorption towers(1,2,3), a vacuum pump(4), branch pipes(5,6,7,8,9,10), automatic opening and shutting valves(11-16)(21-26)(31-36), flow-controlling valves(42,43), a pressure-controlling valve(41). The process for recovering the carbon dioxide includes an adsorption tower pressurization step using the combustion gas such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen, etc., the carbon dioxide adsorption step using the activated carbon, a parallel-flow depressurization step, a parallel-flow depressurization equalization step, a pressurization step, a purge step with adsorbed carbon dioxide product, a vacuum desorbing step, counterflow pressurization equalization step.
